Another celebratory tune in dishonor of the deceased Soviet dictator. The record's label, Atlantic, evidently thought enough of it to place a promotional ad in the March 14, 1953 edition of 'Billboard' ("Get This Timely Hillbilly Record Now!"). See also, Ray Anderson's Stalin Kicked The Bucket. No biographical material could be found for Buddy Hawk and His Buddies. He was one of the very few releases on Atlantic’s stumbling hillbilly series, which otherwise included a very rare and very early record by Bill Haley. LYRICS/TRANSCRIPTION:
Death Of Joe Stalin (Good Riddance): Buddy Hawk and his Buddies [1953] Just when it seemed useless to try anymore But use what power we had A greater Hand made a call one day And took old Joe Stalin away Refrain: So long, old Joe, you had to go Your reservation came through Just one last wish from all people today That there’ll never be another like you! For years we fought a cold, cold war We tried to have peace in our land But with every effort an evil was born With a trick and a lie in each hand Refrain He led his people to lose and lie He forced them to worship him so He said there’s no God to help in your lives But now he thinks different we know Refrain Some men were born to rule in their land It must be all written we know But now you’ve moved on to a stronger hand As the Devil’s helper I know Refrain He had enough power to destroy the world But he let his strength go to his head He could turn a whole nation against what was right But now old Joe Stalin is dead So long, old Joe, you had to go For good or evil no man can tell But you and I, we know don’t we Joe We know you’re goin’ – oh well!
