The familiar Huey 'Piano' Smtih & The Clowns beat is evident in this song that imagines rock 'n' roll breaking out in Communist China. Marchan was lead vocalist in Huey 'Piano' Smith's group for several years beginning in 1957. Marchan can be heard on the group's hits Rockin' Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu and Don't You Just Know It. Rock 'n' roll and soul artist Bobby Marchan was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1930 and got his start in show business as a female impersonator. In 1954 he appeared as part of a drag queen troupe 'Powder Box Revue' in New Orleans, Louisiana. During this same year he made his first recordings for the Aladdin label. After leaving Smith's group, Marchan had his biggest hit with There Is Something On Your Mind Part 2 which reached Number One on the R&B charts in 1960. In 1966 he had a minor hit with Shake Your Tambourine, but for the most part, his recording career was in decline after this song. Marchan periodically returned to his drag performing during lulls in his recording career. Marchan who, over the course of his life recorded for such labels as Ace, Stax, Mercury and others, died of cancer in 1999. LYRICS/TRANSCRIPTION:
